Can we move the pawns backwards?

Yes, you can, great question! As long as it follows the above rules, you can move the pawn backwards. You just can’t move it up to your opponent’s back rank and immediately promote it. (But, you CAN put it on your own back rank if you like.)

Thanks, I was just thinking of a way to protect my king

@l0lg played Rh1-f3. Yellow's clock has now started.

@Max1679, h2-h1=Q is not allowed, as you can’t move an opponent’s piece. So, please try another move when you’re ready.

h7-f5 was played. It is now @l0lg’s move. Their clock has started.

Red has made the first capture of the game!

It is now @Max1679's move, and their clock has started.

(Remember... Captures are done with legal moves!)

May you please specify which piece you are moving when making a move? Here, I would not know which rook to move.

That being said, Rxa2 is not allowed with either Rook, because captures must be made with a legal move.

I have a vague idea of what you might have meant, but can you please tell me the move you'd like to make?

Legal moves are allowed (and must be made) when capturing, giving check, escaping check, promoting a pawn, and when moving the King. I just thought I'd clarify that for you, just in case.

@Max1679 took the pawn on h2 with their Rook! It is now @l0lg's move, and their clock has started.

Can I join in

Avatar of GraysonKellogg
Hello, I saw your request to join the game. We already have two players who are currently playing, sorry. I don’t see any reason we shouldn’t have you join in, but I also can’t see how we’d do it in a fair way. I don’t want to kick anyone out, and I don’t want anyone to sacrifice themselves. If you want, can you please reply to me on chess.com using the Messages feature, so we can try to think of something? Someone else tried to do a teams thing when I played their game, and it went very wrong, but I have a few other ideas, and maybe the two people currently in the game have some, too.

If you want, I could play the variant with you over private messaging. Or, if after the game, someone doesn’t want to play, but the other is up for another game, you can play with them as a round 2 (but that isn’t guaranteed, of course). I might also host another variant which you could join, or I could ATTEMPT to do this variant again (maybe in a three-player version if the two still in the game want to play). And, if you want, I could message you if I ever make another variant, just in case. I will definitely keep you in mind if I ever do another variant, as I feel really bad for not letting you play this time. I’m genuinely really sorry.

Here is the board for @Max1679, so that they can make a move when they’re ready. Hopefully, @Theneloler and I can think of a solution for their request.

@Max1679 played Knight e6-c4, and @l0lg premoved, playing Qe3-g8. Therefore, it is Yellow's turn again, and their clock has started.
