Ok, this has gone for long enough, I resign. Good game. I messed up in the opening and over pushed.

Thanks for the game. Yes this is hopeless for you now, you're losing the chancellor and rook for the hawk too. I think you were doing fine until your queen got caught by the hawk. I probably had an advantage before then, but not much of one.

I suspect you were a little too ambitious with your attempt to control the centre with the pawns. Development of pieces is more important imo. You were absolutely right to bring your hawks into the game early to counter mine, but while you were pushing pawns, I was bringing more pieces into the game.

I look forward to playing you again.

35.C(11,2) was a brutal move that finished you off. I bring a very powerful piece into the attack with checkmate threats. I think your best reply was H(8,5), but then C(12,2) and I again threaten checkmate, while moving my chancellor onto an open file. I don't think you can handle the threats. Even if you can, I can trade down significantly, allowing my queen to dominate.

Excellent game by both. CaptainTug pushing around gyrados with repeated checks reminds me of gyrados pushing me around in my last game with him.frustrated.png

Congratulations to captaintug wash for the win. This game allows Tug to challenge Naviary for the World Champion crown. I'm in contact with Naviary, but we communicate only about once per week. I will ask him if he is able to be present to defend his Title or not. (please allow 1-2 weeks).

In the meantime, I'm glad that we've started the 2020 Tournament to decide the next WC cycle. (not all games started yet). fyi: the Tournament setup can be seen on (on page 16 at this forum).

Thanks for modding Vick.

You're welcome. I really enjoyed watching the game.

I especially thought 4.Q(4,-16) was very interesting. Maybe a good way to develop the queen. As in normal chess, attacking with a queen early almost never makes sense. But it turned out to be a useful developmental move.

The queen remained on that square for 23 moves. Then when Black's king was pushed into negative territory (rank 10: going "backwards") White played 27.Q(30,10)+. The queen was then active in 7 of the next ten moves:

Move 4, and the game ending go like this:

4.Q(4,-16)
...
27.Q(30,10)+...R(10,10)
28.Q(7,33)+...K(8,9)
29.Q(7,13)...G(1,6)
30.H(8,11)+...K(9,9)
31.B(7,11)+...B(8,10)
32.Q(9,11)+...R(9,10)
33.Q(11,11)+...R(10,10)
34.Q(13,9)+...K(10,8)
35.C(11,2) ...N(9,9)
36.Q(13,11)+...C(11,9)
37.Hx(8,8)+...Black resigns

It was a really interesting game, and I think both sides played with great skill.😀😀😀

Btw, I did send an e-mail to Naviary to see if plans to defend his World Champion Title. I presume he will not, but I'm asking him anyway. I think he usually reads email on Mondays, so I hope to let you know soon his intentions.

I've said it before, but the queen is an extremely powerful piece in this format. 4.Q(4,-16) is definitely development, it can attack black's rear from both diagonals. I like to get my queen there before my hawk blocks. And I'm definitely still happy with my opening strategy, to develop hawks. They are such good pieces, I don't want them waiting to join the game. They take time to develop, I prefer to waste that time immediately.

I'm happy for Nav to take all the time he needs, it's basically on you to decide when it's long enough.

Naviary has previously said we can expect him to be back in June of 2021. So if nothing has changed, then a bit more than a year left.
