Chess on an Infinite Plane (captaintugwash - hitthepin)

This is the round-2 game (game-5) of the 2020 Chess on an Infinite Plane Tournament. @captaintugwash and @hitthepin both advanced, so they play each other here in round-2.

Details of the tournament can be seen (here).

Rules:

The Pieces:

Black and White each have the following pieces (quantity and name):
1 king
1 queen
2 chancellors
2 rooks
2 bishops
2 knights
2 guards
2 hawks
24 pawns

All pieces move as in classical chess, with the "extra" three pieces moving as follows:

Chancellor (C) - Moves and captures as rook + knight.

Hawk (H) - Leaps exactly 2 or 3 squares in any orthogonal or diagonal direction. The leaping move means it can jump over other pieces.

Guard (G) - Moves and captures the same as a king but is not affected by check.

Pawns play the same and promote at the same rank as in classical chess. White pawns promote at rank 8, and black pawns promote at rank 1. Pawns can promote to chancellor, hawk, or guard in addition to queen, rook, bishop, or knight. Pawns may capture and be captured en passant with the same rules as in classical chess.

Board Setup:

Orange brackets identify the four "classical" corner squares (1,1), (1,8), (8,1), and (8,8).

There is no castling.

There is no fifty-move rule. Draws can only occur from stalemate, threefold repetition, agreement, or a proven case of insufficient material to force checkmate.

All other rules are the same as in classical chess.

Move Notation:
Numeric coordinates are used to identify piece locations as (file#, rank#). Parenthesis are used around each coordinate. Three examples of a move notation:
1) A rook moving from (8,4) to (1,4):
     R(8,4)-(1,4) or R(1,4)
2) A rook moving from (1,4) and capturing a piece on (0,4):
     R(1,4)x(0,4) or Rx(0,4)
3) A pawn advancing from (-1,7) to (-1,6):
     (-1,7)-(-1,6) or (-1,6)

Tug plays White. Good luck to both players!happy.png

(I hope this post isn't regarded as a distractive interception.)

Vickalan, we haven't spoken  in a really long time. I hope you're doing well.

It warms my heart to come back after 4 years of almost inactivity and see that Infinite Plane is now producing fruits. I remember back to 2016-17, when it was still just a pleasant brainstormed concept. We had so much fun discussing the details of it, and you were so excited to have it move forward. And now, today, look what a blossoming tree it's become. =)

I know that Infinite Plain has had many games already through the years, and that I'm late in responding. Still, I thought it worth the effort for me to acknowledge it here, as this is the first game of it I'm seeing since my return.

I'll be watching this game to watch its progress.

To both CaptainTugWash and HitThePin, best of luck to both of you. Play hard, play honorably, and have fun!

Hey BattleChess, thanks for that. I hope you enjoy the game!

hitthepin

Thank you, BattleChess. It’s a great game you’ve helped make.

Gl to you too, tug. Hopefully, I put up more of a fight for you compared to last time.

Haha I didn't help make the game, HitThePin. I must clarify that. I was simply around to ask questions about it, so that I could understand the game better;  maybe made a very minor suggestion or two. If anything, I would own less than 2% credit of this game. ^-^

Vickalan and I have been good chess.com variant acquaintances online (not real life) for a long time. I just wanted to let him/her know that I'm very happy for where his/her variant has gone: to great places.

Anyways, I'm sure you two will put up a very good game. And yes, CaptainTugWash, I know I'll enjoy it.

Onwards! =)

Hi @BattleChessGN18

In case you were wondering, 61 rated chess on an infinite plane games have been played.

Some variants, such as 4-player infinite have also been played.

Good luck to both players!

Wow, it's really cool to see how far chess on an infinite plane has come since I was active. I haven't played any variant chess for years, and it's good to see that they are still flourishing.

Hi Battlechess, it's great to see you back on these forums. I plan to start another Infinite Plane tournament (finding players), probably once this game is in the mid-game, or early after the Final has started. I've already had one request by someone new to join the next tournament. Maybe even SuperSam will play again?

Btw, my game with SuperSam was one of my favorites. It lasted 169 moves, and took about half a year. In the middle of the game HTP left a comment "This is still going on"? Lol. Sadly I lost.meh.png
