Anyone have a favorite chess variant? I think mine is mak ruk (sp?) although I haven't played too many others. I did try 3 dimensional chess and immediately learned it is way above my pay grade. I still prefer regular old chess above all. 960 is ok too.

Shogi (Japanese Chess, a sibling rather than a child of Chess, so to speak) is a lot of fun. The addition of piece drops makes it play very differently, and on the whole it it's a much more aggressive game.
