It sounds interesting
Chess960, but both sides are different
Yes, it has been discussed several times previously!
For example: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-variants/why-not-double-chess-960-variant-two-different-960-starting-positions-with-921-600-games-possible
I'm sure this has been thought of before, which makes me even more shocked that I have never seen anyone talk about it. (That's probably because I don't look at the chess variants forum a lot, though. Forgive me if this has been brought up 1,000 times before.)
This is pretty self-explanatory. The standard Chess960 rules apply (bishops have to be on opposite colors and the king must be between the rooks); the only difference is that both players have their back rank randomized differently, so you have to really pay close attention to both sides before moving.
For example:
As you can see, this can potentially lead to some...unique games, including some positions where one side may have a pretty clear advantage right out of the gate.
I don't know about you, but I'm already imagining the fun and exciting games titled players and noobs alike could get from this variation. Potentially unbalanced starting positions aside, I see nothing to complain about.
