Really bad chess!

The really best chess has many fairy pieces!

Normal pieces.
As a move a player can do something called TM. This special move depends on the amount of material you have taken with the piece.
For eg a knight take a pawn. It uses TM. TMs use the material count for each piece so a pawn TM is 1. This allows the knight to move like a pawn for the next 5 moves.
But there’s a twist. Your opponent can also do something called HM. Same as TM, one of the pieces uses HM and it un-TMs the same opponent piece

Exact same board and placement

When you assign new abilities to standard pieces, it comes down to inventing new pieces but failing to give them new names. A Knight is a Knight, and a piece moving like a pawn or Knight is not anymore a Knight.

I agree. The pieces have to move normally or else you are not using standard pieces.

For example, the bishop can travel anywhere diagonally, but cannot jump over pieces. That's normal chess.

Oops, the Witch might make this discussion more complicated.

Ok sorry misunderstood but the rules

Capture the Flag: get a piece to your opponent s 8th rank. And bring it back safely. If a piece containing a flag holder gets captured, the flag is on that square. Either side can pick up .

Sideways Chess:

The board is sideways, pawns move sideways, but the promotion line is still the 8th rank, the top of the board...

Avatar of evert823

These two would fit in this contest.

@evert823

You can choose one of the 2 variants. Each person can only choose 1.

@aidanb1 @HolographWars @togepi2468

Those are all good variants, but what is the size of the board? Normal chess board?

Avatar of evert823

OK then I will start with the minor rule change for avoiding draw.

Avatar of HGMuller

OK, I submit this:

Contageous-Queen Chess:

Normal FIDE rules apply, except for these two modifications / additions:

1) A piece other than King that captures a Queen turns into a Queen (of its own color) at the end of its move. (Like a promotion.)

2) A Pawn reaching last rank can only promote to Rook, Bishop or Knight.

Look at my blog, that is the variant I created.
