The standard opening chess principles I am familiar with involve controlling the center, prioritizing developing your knights and bishops, and castling early. In general, do these still apply to Chess960? And does anybody have an example of these principles leading to a bad situation?
They apply, but be aware of early tactics resulting from the special placement of the pieces. And keep also an extra eye on the development of your Queen (it can be much more complicated than in normal chess). And remember that castling can be harder.
Controlling the center and bringing out minor pieces are actually more important with Chess960 because you have no openings that break those rules and have been known to work out.
