I think the variants section just doesn't function cleanly. The only way I've managed to find matches the last time I used the variants page was to go to "4 player & variants", search "king of the hill", pick a time control, and click play. And searching for an opponent for a variant like king of the hill is a pain based on the unpopularity of the variant and the variant page in general. For king of the hill, I would just recommend waiting for king of the hill tournaments. Other than that I don't think they pay too much attention to variants. I hope I understood your question and was able to provide good information.
How do I 'seek' for a match in Variants?

Hi everyone,
I’ve been trying to figure this out, but can’t quite get it. For example, if I wanted to seek a King of the Hill game, is there a way to look for both 1-minute and 3-minute games at the same time, like how I could do in the regular Play section?
So far, I’ve only managed it by cancelling the original seek and then starting a new one. Probably just me not being familiar with how the Variants server is set up, but I thought I’d ask here.
