Could be called Draft Chess or Draft 960 or somesuch
Starting with black, players would alternately place ("draft") pieces on their backline, which would then be mirrored on the opposing side. Rules for placement constraints could be:
1) None, just freeform
2) Each player drafts on their left half of the board
3) Pieces must be placed sequentially, from file a-h
For bishops, one of each square color must be drafted. A player's draft is forced if only one square of a color is remaining with no bishops on that color. Or maybe allow two bishops on the same color?
Any thoughts? Better names?
Also, let me know if this has been done before. I only found one similar thing with a quick Google search, but the webpage was broken.
