no it isn't a good idea
1: if its a 8x8 board king starts in check giving white a instant win
2; if you increase the size blacks queen can get instantly captured along with the rooks
3:looping horizontally is the only way to do it
Maybe it's not realistic to the classical setup.. similar to how unrealistic 3-check is in this (maybe someday I will increase it to 5 or 7). But with a different setup you could prevent these immediate captures off the start.

Add a duck, it can move one in any direction and cant be captured or capture, just there to block pieces and check

I've contacted him over email. Last time I corresponded from him was June 2023. He's pretty much dropped out of games, spending time outdoors and other things, I don't know too much more.

He and I were particularly a pair of online "peas in a pod". We really enjoyed eachother's company; and excellently bonded over variants and other such stuff.
Despite talking very closely about people who flake on their games, it seems that he was waiting a long time for my response to our game. I wonder if I was the final straw. If so, I'm taking responsibility.

You can add another row of pawns like a sandwich.
