I recently came up with the idea of a new chess variant where instead of having a queen and king you would have two kings. You would basically have two "lives" and would have to checkmate both of your opponents kings. You could fork or skewer both your opponents kings or even come up with a double checkmate. Maybe even in promotion if you had lost one of your kings you could promote a pawn to a king(limit of two). Here are some examples.
