Incorrect position. We should retain bishops of opposite colours for each player. Please choose any random position from here https://www.mark-weeks.com/cfaa/chess960/c960strt.htm if you have any doubt.
Let's play Progressive960

By the way PunchboxNET, we can try to play Crazy Progressive Chess. There are no restrictions on placement of pieces. The pawns can be placed on the first rank for White and on the eighth rank for Black. The players take turns placing pieces on their half of the board and after the last piece has been placed, the game begins. It will take time, but the game is worth it.

Ok let's play. Italian rules:
FIDE rules apply, with the following exceptions:
- Players alternately make a sequence of moves of increasing number: White makes 1 move, black makes 2 moves, white makes 3 moves, and so on.
- Each sequence of moves must be completed. Inability to complete a sequence counts as a 'progressive stalemate' (provided one's King is not in check).
- A check can be given only on the last move of a completed sequence.
- A check can be nullified only in the first move of a sequence.
- If a check cannot be nullified without checking the enemy King, the game is lost by a 'progressive checkmate'.
- En passant capture permitted on the first move of a sequence only.
- If neither a Pawn is moved nor a piece is captured in 10 successive sequences, and neither player can show an impending mate, the game is a draw.
I think there was a notation error - it should be 3. Nc3 Nxe4 Ng3 I assume?

Congratulations on finding that checkmate! I looked very carefully to make sure there was no mate, but I missed your clever bishop manoeuvre. I don’t think I’ve ever lost a serious game of Progressive so quickly! OK, I will try again soon - you can select a position and I’ll play White. But please wait for a week or ten days, when I hope to have more time, and right now you have another opponent and I’ll follow those games with interest.
I just remembered that the Progressive Chess app I have on my phone also plays 960 (with Italian rules it seems). Castling is not enabled in 960, but usually you don’t want to castle so that doesn’t matter much. Also on this phone version you cannot set up a specific position, but there is a PC version with extra features that I haven’t tried (you need to have Java installed). I don’t know how strong this program is - I’ve only played quick games with it, and it’s good at finding mates but maybe not so good positionally. Thanks Malcolm! And thanks for the link. I installed this app and in my opinion it is very weak. I didn't know there was a PC version of Progressive Chess. This is a bit sad as I am used to playing chess variants for which there are no chess engines.
Malcolm as soon as you have time to play, write here that you are ready. I will select a position and post it.
Good luck my friend! I am looking forward to the start of our second game.
