I didn't see any option, so why spend more time?

I'm more curious about the time spent on your guys move. Does everyone get a chance to participate in the discussion when less than 24 hours are spent for a move?

So, are you guys resigning?

idk

gg This was a very satisfying win to get. happy.png I think I was winning, even without the blunder at the end. I will post some analysis and look through the analysis thread later.

One losing line for black is 31...a3 32.Kd4 b6 33.Bg4 Ba4 34.Bc2 with the e-pawn falling. 34...Rc6 35.Rxc6 Kxc6 36.Bd3+ is a fork.

31...a3 32.Kd4 Ra5 33.Bg4 Ba4 34.Bc2 Ra6 is a better try. 35.Rxa6. One fun little trap is 35...bxa6 36.Bb1 when the bishop is trapped, but that should not be played. 35...Bxa6 and there should be several ways for white to win. 36.c5  for example and whites king can pick up the a3 pawn while whites bishop will prevent blacks king from entering on the light squares (Kc3, Kb4, Bc4, Kxa3, etc.)

I think there were more drawing chances if a4 was played before Kc7, but overall I would be very surprised if the endgame is not just winning for me from the start after the queen trade. Up a pawn, more space and better placed pieces. Opponents king is cut off from getting active. That should be more than enough to win.

Also, I guess I'll also stick with calling the queen a king and calling the king a queen during the analysis.

Read the comment in the diagram after 43.a4. White is in time to protect the e-pawn with his king.

I think these drunken bishops were very interesting. How much their worth is pretty unclear. I don't think it is impossible for 2 bishops (including the value for bishop pair) to be worth 2 rooks and a pawn. A lone bishop though, maybe around the same as a rook. The bishops are still limited to one color, so that devalues them a bit. Similar to bishop vs knight in classical chess it really depends on the position when it comes to rook vs drunken bishop.

One takeaway from these bishops is that they do not enjoy being on the edges of the board. Below is a diagram with the number of squares that a drunken bishop can move to from a square on an empty board. The squares not filled are equivalent to some other square filled (for example, a2,b1,b8,g1,g8, h2,h8 are all equivalent to a7).

A drunken bishop is terrible in the corner with only 3 moves available. I will also argue that the edges are not desirable. If a bishop stays off the edges, then the bishop can move to at least 16 different squares on an empty board. This can be compared to a rook which can always move to 14 squares on an empty board. I don't want to use these numbers too much to evaluate the value of drunken bishops, but it is a sign that they are pretty strong.

One trump I had this game was that the black bishop was not well placed on a6. It is arguably not better placed there than where it started on c8. Black used 2 moves to get there, Bb5 and Ba6. In the meantime, I got the moves b3 and Na3. I will argue that my moves were a lot more useful than those black moves.

This said, I think 4...Bb5+ was premature.

How does everyone feel about a rematch?

Martin0

I don't mind a rematch, but in that case I don't want to start until the start of next year.

Martin0

I'm ready to start a rematch if there is interest.

I'll join in… but Martin0, you'll play with one hand tied behind your back this time? (to be a Sport)

We'll need to get Ry to be our side's (the World) Master of Ceremonies.

And I'll have to review how it works… there's some trick thing, an event…

Great! So who will be the messenger for the world team? Bob or Ry again?
