It seems like we're not actually threatening to play g4 here (at least not immediately), since if it were our turn to play now and we played g4, then Martin could just play ...exd4, forcing us to play Qxd4 (since we have to make a capturing move) and then our g4 pawn is protected.

However, we are threatening to make a queen move (such as Qc2, which unprotects the d4 pawn and forces black to make a capturing move) and then after black plays ...exd4 we can play g4. So if Martin plays a "nothing move" here without first playing 11...exd4, then we should win easily. In the below diagram I use 11...a6 and 11...c6 as examples of "nothing moves" and show how we can beat those moves.

Outside, looking-in, moves for us, following Martin's upcoming reply…

Build a Queen?

From the Daily Puzzles that I routinely do, a vulnerable King, when faced with dominating tactics, can get into serious trouble even though the other side suffers sacrifice after sacrifice… seemingly game losing sacrifices.

But a victory would be all the sweeter!

It would be so cool to win this game with the aid of an Event that would be considered "against all odds" for success.

no Queens have been builded yet

I know… just adds to the suspended drama!  happy.png

Taking the time to build a Queen, now that's an "outside" move.

Just saying… so that we think outside the box.

P.S.  I've looked at things and I still don't see a winning line for us… not even a hint of a winning line.  And Martin tends to smell blood when he is up a minor piece.

P.S.S. I don't know how he does it… after all… he is mortal. wink.png

We have lost a Bishop...

haoming09

who moved Bh4 anyways?

USAuPzlBxBob

Not me.  I'm innocent.

Didn't you know… everyone here is innocent.

(Saw Shawshank Redemption the other night.)

We analyzed it and thought it was good. If you disagree, you should have said something. (I'm pretty sure we have a decent position)

I'm hoping so.  We may very well be in the crux of the Event Puzzle.  Upcoming blunders notwithstanding.

Hoping that Martin will blunder, some how.

We'll see.

I wasn't alert about the forum for a few days. So I actually don't know what you guys moved. but what is done, it is already done.

haoming09

so what are you guys planning to move?

Tja_05

I believe that if we play Nd5, dxe5 is threatened.

Tja_05

Now, I'm going to assume he plays either ...Qe8 or ...exd4.

Tja_05

On 11... Qe8, we can play 12. Qa4. The line goes: 12. Qa4 exd4 13. Nb5 Qxe2 14. Nxd4 Qxb2 15. Nf5. We've an attack here, but it may not be enough. Alternatively, we can play 14. Nxc7, winning the rook in the corner. This is riskier though.

Tja_05

I'll analyze some more later. I just realized 11... Nb6 is an option.

Chess_Pro2

11...Qe8 was one of the first moves I looked at that starts with 8. Bg5. The line I suggested was 12. Qa4 exd4 13. Nb5 Qxe2 14. Nxc7 Qxb2 15. Nxa8, just like one of the lines you just came up with. We are up an exchange in that line and we have the option of building 2 queens, while Martin can only build 1 queen. Also the knight on a8 will escape via Nc7 and Nd5. There's not really a way for black to stop 16. Nc7, except with 15...Ne8, but after 15...Ne8 we can just play 16. Be7 and the f8 rook is trapped.

I've already looked at this move too and the line I suggested was 12. dxe5 dxe5 13. Qxe8 Rxe8 14. Ne4 Nxe4 15. Bxd8 Nxc4 16. Bxe4, or 14...Nxc4 15. Nxf6+ Bxf6 16. Bxf6 Nxb2 17. Bxd8 (or actually initially I suggested 17. Bxe5 and missed that we had 17. Bxd8).

Chess_Pro2

If Martin plays 11...exd4 12. Qxd4 Re8, then I think we can play the line I show below. There are some tricky lines where it looks like we can just win his queen on d8 by playing g4, but then we also lose our queen because our bishop on d8 is attacking the c7 pawn and he counterattacks our queen while we have to make a capturing move.

The line 12...Re8 13. Nd5 Rxe2 14. Qh4 Rxb2 15. Rae1 Rxa2 might also be worth considering. We're down a lot of material but might get a very strong attack. I haven't looked at 14. Qh4 in that much detail so it looks unclear to me.

ok

Hints of success point to a Built Queen on h3 with a natural Queen on h4, or elsewhere… a forced pawn grabber maybe in the form of h5.
