My first chess variant in the internet: Snail Queen Chess

So, today I just came up with a variant called “Snail Queen Chess”.

I will tell you all changes I made.

In this variant, Black plays first instead of White. It actually wasn’t intentional. I accidentally drew the board with the white pieces on top so I just did that change.

Next is the size of the board. You’ll play on a 12x12 board instead of an 8x8 board.

And then the pieces. All the pieces are the same, except for the following changes: the king moves like a queen and the queen moves like a king or two squares orthogonally. The pawn also can’t promote to a king, a queen, a vest-man or a spider.

There are various new pieces. They are the lance, vest-man, archbishop, spider, camel and sheep.

The lance moves up to two squares forward or downward one square. It captures diagonally.

The vest-man moves one square orthogonally or three squares diagonally. When it captures a piece, it moves like that piece for one move.

The archbishop moves like a knight and a bishop.

The spider is always in the edge of the board. It can move in the edge it’s on. If it’s on a corner, it can choose to be on one of the 2 edges. It can also switch to the opposite edge, but not when an ally is in the way. When it switches to the opposite edge, it creates a “web”. Any enemy pieces in the web is captured.

The camel moves 3 squares forward and then 1 square in each side. It can jump over pieces.

The sheep moves 3 squares diagonally. It can jump over pieces.

In my variant, your objective is to capture the opponent’s Snail Queen.

Now, here’s the setup.

Place 12 pawns in the frontline.

Then in the middle line, place the 2 lances at b file and k file, the vest-men at c file and j file, the archbishops at d file and i file and the knights at e file and h file.

Finally in the back line, place the spiders at a file and l file, the rooks in the same files as the lances, the camels in the same files as the vest-men, the sheep in the same files as the archbishops, the bishops in the same files as the knights, the Lightning King at g file and the Snail Queen at f file. (Yup, the king and queen aren’t called the king and queen.)

That’s it! See you soon!
