New Chess Variant

My new chess variant combines random chess with regular chess. You start with a set of cards, on each card is written a single move that can be played as white's opening move. The entire deck of cards contain every possible first move for white. When white plays his opening move, the cards are shuffled and one is randomly selected and white must play that move on the board as his first move. That way white has less of an advantage because he does not choose his first move, it is randomly selected.

You do realize chess is a board game and not a card game, right?

The cards are used to select the opening move only. In Bobby Fischer's Random Chess they use dice or a computer to set up the board. You can mix cards with a board game, Monopoly for example. In this game there would only be 20 cards, one for each possible opening move. This game gives the players something different to play without having to reset the entire board and reduces white's opening advantage.

You can mix cards with a board game. Monopoly for example. All you need are 20 cards, one foor each possible opening move. The resulting game would have more variety than regular chess and white's advantage would be slightly reduced.

Ok I am confused

Its all very simple. When the game starts white can make one of twenty possible moves. Each move is written on an index card and these cards are mixed up and placed face down on the table. White then randomly picks one card and this gives him his opening move. Instead of playing e4 or d4 or some other move all the time he must make the move indicated by the card. The game then proceeds normally. This way white is forced to play moves he may not be familiar with and the game proceeds in a path differently than usual. By not being allowed to choose his first move white loses some of the advantage of being white and the game itself takes a direction different than what the players are used to. This makes things a little more interesting.

Ok, but shouldn't black also have to use this for the first turn? It wouldn't be fair for white, just what i am saying... so, yeah.

The thing is white has an advantage to begin with in regular chess. This takes white's advantage away. If black's ability to choose the move he wants to play is taken away then white will retain his avantage.

yes, but black gains the advantage

It equalizes the advantage. White still has the initiative.
