Fairy pieces already exist in chess.com.
general-> king + knight
amazon-> queen + knight
queen (not fairy piece) -> queen + rook
hawk-> bishop + knight
In this variant, you can combine your pieces by moving one piece onto the square the other one is on (ex. rook on a1 moves to a4 to combine with a black bishop to become queen), and the queen can also choose to separate later on to become bishop + rook again (ex. the same queen on g3 keeps the bishop on g3 and separates the rook to a3, or the rook is kept on g3 and the bishop separates to h2). The king can combine with the knight to become general, if the general gets mated, the game ends.
I don't know if this is possible in chess.com, but it sounds like an interesting idea.
