Oh my I've already got myself into a predicament, I'm out of practice, maybe I should've prioritized center instead of being excited about trying a new strategy

Although it is ok, it does make the game a lot less interesting if you are just going to lost a pawn(or a piece) in the opening...

5. Bxg5 ... Bf6

This is very cool. When an obstacle is captured it disappears and becomes available space for both players, right? So the playing area would mostly be contiguous, although a knight can punch unconnected holes (if it wanted to).

We'd have to disallow the king capturing obstacles, or it could just run forever creating a path.

Good thinking... Even a queen cannot check a fleeing king. The king can run zig-zag, so even the queen can advance only one square at a time.nervous.png

Would be very interesting with witch. Or maybe all unoccupied squares at start are barriers.

That is correct happy.png I get feeling too there won't be many punch holes either before endgame, we'll see. It is a lot more difficult to trap pieces as they have an escape.

DukeOfHelsinki

hxg5

There's no such thing as a queen trap now

Interesting variant, similar to infinite chess.

One question: can a piece take an obstacle, move away, and can the king can move to the non-obstacle square?

DukeOfHelsinki

yes
