Veney is a chess variant with mechanics and spirit invoking the complexity of fencing.
A tremendous amount of play-testing and staring at the ceiling went into this update. Things are all much better balanced, and the players must carefully maneuver to get at each other.
Also, there is a template for quick online play! You can make a copy of this to get started with a friend, or post an open challenge here. The vertical orientation works very nicely on phones with the Google Sheets app:
