Strategy or colluding? - 4 players chess

About 4 players chess, which I started playing a few weeks ago.

Some people complain about others teaming up in Free-for-all when it is not the case (anyways, there is litteraly a separate Team mode for 4 player chess). Sometimes, cheaters are obvious (like people using chat to communicate). It is indicated in the rules that it is okay to use pins or your opponents pieces' positions for your advantage as long as you don't collude with them.

For example, I used in a game one opponent 1's pin of a pawn of opponent 2 to position my piece where the pined pawn can capture it, it is not considered teaming up because I don't collude with anyone, right? And I pointed out later in chat (after all opponents stopped hanging their pieces ((because the rules say you can't say anything in comments that can help any player in the present position, it is considered collusion)) ) how I tried to use that pin, but that neither opponent 1 or opponent 2 noticed the pin and hung their pieces in a extraordinary fashion for several moves as the result of the pawn capturing my piece. And I guess some people may be worried too much about people teaming up and get suspicious.

And maybe also I talk too much. How clear is the line between using your opponents pieces for your advantage without teaming up and collusion in that gamemode?

Any clarifications are greatly appreciated.

Collusing is unfair obviously we can take of opponents pieces position like not giving check because the next player can deliver mate so I wait until king is in mating net so I can deliver the final move.

Capture opponents piece when he is in check cause he cant take back.

If they want to play team game they should go for that instead of ruining the eco system of other players.

Hi! So the rules only say that you can’t try to influence someone through speech. They don’t say you can’t team, actually. There’s nothing in the rules stopping me from attacking my opposite player only or only attacking the sides or whatever I want to do, as long as I don’t try to influence others in the chat.

Moreover, it is called FFA. As interpreted by the admins, that stands for, not free-for-all, as everyone alone, but a better term would be “free to do what i want.” the official standing from admins is that teaming is perfectly fine, as long as you don’t influence people in chat (and you can’t pre-arrange a team, but same concept)

If you look at 2500+ rated games you’ll see, I believe, that the players almost never attack their opposite and try to attack their sides. There is an implicit assumption that opposites will try to team together. This is perfectly legal by the rules.

Unfortunately, this is not intuitive at the least, so I don’t think most under 2200 or so understand this well, at least partially because teams and ffa are termed in a way that suggest teaming is illegal, even though it's not.

Why isn’t it illegal? So first, it's the best strategy, because A. it's easier to attack the side players, and B. everyone else at a high level is doing it…you’ll almost never win a one vs two if both players incessantly attack you.
The biggest reason is that there isn’t any way of instituting a rule(I can elaborate, if you want please ask me, but basically, what would the rule be? It would be restrictive, nuanced, and impossible to enforce) Plus the amount of man-power to police such a rule) It would be incredibly restrictive. It would also drive most high-rated players away.

To sum up: Whatever I want to do on the chessboard: Legal. Trying to influence another player in chat: Illegal

Anyway I hope this helps. For future reference, if you join the four player chess club, posting in that forum will expose your ideas and questions to much more 4pc players than this does.
