Variant forum seems to be completely messed up these days

The variant forum seems not to even have a meaningful discussion anymore. Most of the threads are by @Kenta2022 or some other user claiming to have invented a new variant, or just saying meaningless stuff about a variant (that may not be chess related). A long time ago (like a year) these threads actually used to have something. People used to play the games in the forum. Now it’s just like ”2048” or (insert generic chess variant) or ”chessvariantwebsite.com” . I know these are all ”allowed”, however this seems to be a waste of the variants forum and we could possibly have a seperate thread for new chess variants or something.

Thanks for listening to my rant. Post what you think we should do, anyone who is actually part of this variant community.

P.S. This is not meant to discourage or insult you, @Kenta2022, but I think our variants forum could be a lot better.

Funny you should say that. Because the way it is used now is pretty much what the variants forum was originally designed for. (At that time chess.com did not support chess variants for playing.)

At some point people suddenly started to abuse the forum for playing games. A lot of people complained about that, because there were so many games, and these were so frequently posted in, that any discussion about chess variants (newly invented or not) would quickly be pushed several pages down, so that no one would see them. At that time it was suggested a separate forum section should be made for playing (variant) games. Nevertheless the game playing continued here.

But apparently it has mostly stopped now.

You cannot blame Kenta for not many others posting here. If he would not post here that still would not make anything you (apparently) would like to see appear here. Although I agree with your criticism that many of the games he presents are not chess variants at all, but completely unrelated games. It is not clear what you mean by "meaningful discussion". I would not consider topics were people just post moves and images of positions "meaningful discussion". These are just games. (And often of appalling quality...)

Yes, playing games in the chess variants forum has mostly stopped already long ago. So I can't really relate PunchboxNET's post to an excessive amount of variant games being played in the variants forum.

Chess.com has implemented some kind of framework in their "variants". So there's a vast flexibility to 'invent' a variant on the spot and see it implemented automatically.
But it's also obviously confined within some boundaries. There's a new generation of variant players (lots of kids I suspect) that thinks and creates posts here inside this context.
So they'll post something like "what do you think of this?", "and what about this?" or "and this seems to be not possible so why not? ... oh sorry for asking then".
Without them realizing that the mind can create endless possibililties beyond what chess.com has created here, and that the minds of previous-generation-chess-variants-addicts have already done so.
