Why does chess have variants

Historically what we call "chess" is a variant. the rules of en passant, stalemate, and even how the queen moves are changes from the "original" chess

Our regular chess today was once a variant. It was called Mad Queen chess. Originally the queen could only move one square at a time. Around the 1400s the mad queen variant where the queen has unlimited movement in every direction became popular.

there are other variants other than chess960, you could try 3-check, KoTH, bughouse, crazyhouse or anything in the variants tab under play if you're on computer. However it is to be expected that you will struggle when trying new things

uh, it's not possible to cheat in varients, unless it's chess960. And if you don't like them, don't play them. Some people think they are fun.
