In the board gaming hobby a new kind of war game arose in the last years. The COIN games, a series of games where 4 players are in control of distinct factions with distinct winning conditions, which offers a very interesting dynamic to the games. Online I found the rules Evan Burchard invented for a four player chess variant https://gist.github.com/EvanBurchard/ae77db69f788f22e71f5. Two players control the pawns and two players control the kings and queens. Due to how scoring works, the incentive of the player controlling the pawns is different from the player controlling the king and queen, which makes for an interesting game of diplomacy and backstabbery. Make sure to follow the link and check out the rules. I would be interested to see what people think about this variant.
