Who decides where to place the Hawk? First you decide for your piece, then me?
a game of musketeer chess

Let the fireworks begin
Yes, This game should be fun! We have some powerful pieces waiting - the Chancellor and the Hawk. I'll start by moving 1.d4:

May be you should play 2 games, one vs musketeerchess and the other vs me.
My move would be 1....d5
Hi, yes I can play a game with you. Like you said we should start another thread.
And we need to start the game from the beginning, where we choose our new pieces first.
This will be 4 games for me but it is on-line correspondence, so we only need to make about one move a day. I have time for that. I started another thread (here) for our game. See you there!

Oh! Thanks for telling me about the extra pawn I forgot to remove! I almost gave you a free 9th pawn!
I have another important question: When do the new pieces move onto the board? Do we use a move for that, or do they go automatically when the piece on the first row is moved away? If the second case is true, then your hawk is on c8 and mine is on b1. Is that correct?
In either case I will play:
3.e3
Let me know if I should show your hawk and my hawk on the c8 and b1 squares now. This game is already getting interesting!

When i see this diagram i think there are a few errors.
After Black's Bf5 the Hawk should have been introduced in c8.
The same after 2.Nc3 the Hawk should have been introduced at the same time. I think musketeerchess overlooked this
Yes, that's the question I had. I wasn't sure if the gated pieces move in right away (when the square opens) or if we have to use a move for that. Now you answered my question - they move in the same time the square opens. So now I think the board is ready for musketeer's move:
(I played 3.e3 and the hawk moves in, just as the black hawk moved in too).
This is looking dangerous!

i love this variant. where can i play it?
You can play on this forum but first you have to find an opponent (and one of you has to be willing to update the graphics after each move). I am already playing 4 games (2 Musketeer Chess and 2 Bulldog chess) by correspondence so I'm afraid to start any new games. If you start a new thread I bet someone will want to play against you. I can send you the starting graphics (empty board, and a board with all possible starting pieces on both light and dark squares). Just let me know.
This thread is for a game of musketeer chess between "musketeerchess" and me
I went to the Musketeer website ('http://musketeerchess.net/site/game-rules/) to learn about the rules. (Musketeerchess also sent me the piece icons to use for the game). I'm playing white, and my first pick for a new piece will be the Chancellor. This is where I'll place him after my first pick:
Now musketeerchess will choose the next new piece?
