Musketeer chess has its own website (external link below). I believe the variant pieces are added to the board after spaces are opened when pieces move off the first rank. (So the game is on an 8x8 board, but extra pieces get added). I think there's other versions too.

On interesting thing about Musketeer Chess is that physical pieces can be purchased. I've played against the developer (Zied) and he's pretty good. He's sometimes on these forums (once was @musketerchess2017).
