Interesting how pieces that were lurking far from the center moved back in for the end. Either for attack, or an urgent defense. That was a super game to watch! Medals will be presented tomorrow.happy.png

I'm just happy I survived that long :l

Rematch?

I will definitely give you a rematch, I enjoyed that game a lot, but let me take a breather first and give hitthepin his rematch, he's been waiting patiently.

Can I play tug?

As soon as vick is ready, sure.

captaintugwash

That really was intense. I had the lead throughout, but you can see how much damage can be done with limited material.

Also amusing that tomato gave me the runaround with the queen and the chancellor for what felt like an eternity, while I took two moves. Of course I had much more defense.

Fantastic game, thanks again tomato, and thanks again vick for moderating.

HorribleTomato

I've learned many things playing you. Like, if you have to move a hawk, it should always be the KS one 1st, one time.

captaintugwash

Both the hawks are vulnerable to a fork, so you either need to get them protected, or give the king so rear defence, before the queen is active.

ya, use the KH as defense in back, 5th file.

captaintugwash

If you only want to develop one of them, that's probably the best way to do so.

HorribleTomato

Best thing about this game is I developed some more theory on my opening!

hitthepin
And we got to see a new and interesting mate pattern.
HorribleTomato

oh yeah and also C+Q equals brutal doom.

captaintugwash

The chancellor shows it power with this checkmate. Not only does it control three escape squares, its check cannot be blocked. It certainly is a beast of a piece.

I got to develop my defence, thanks!

HorribleTomato

I feel guards are best at doing the back rank work on the 0. On 1 they are just blocking the sliders.

captaintugwash

Guards are totally defensive until endgame. Better pieces can get there faster for attacking play, but guards will be excellent at assisting pawns to promotion.

captaintugwash

Rooks are good defensive pieces too.
