Chess on an Infinite Plane (hitthepin - vickalan)

@neoliminal: don't worry about it at all - your move ideas were just to learn the notation. I just wanted to make sure nobody makes comments about specific move ideas. You can leave comments anytime, as long as it doesn't help either player.
My move:
5...Nx(4,4)

I'm fairly certain my ideas would hurt players rather than help them.
lol. actually your queen's move was a good exercise. Nobody would ever play it because it loses 3 tempo, and you lose the queen at the end. But attacking from behind in large-format games is sometimes called a flank-attack.
Attacking by going around on both sides is called a pincer movement and has been used in some famous military battles.

These types of variants, with larger boards and exposed back sides, they invite flanking tactics. Napoleon wouldn't approve, but if the threat can create a situation where more than three moves are required to counter, then the loss of tempo pays off (assuming the frontal attack is slow enough... which is normally is.
Enjoy the game!

@neoliminal, thanks for the comments about flanking attacks. I don't know if it would be possible to launch a flank attack right in the opening, because the opponent can defend faster than the attack is executed. But by mid or end-game, flank and pincer movements could be excellent strategy.
It's interesting though, because nobody knows for sure. Not enough games have been played, and there is no engine analysis. We'll see how it goes.
@hitthepin: You already have a pawn on (-1,2). Will you play a different move?
friedmelon is an interesting player. He's just been playing slow lately. I would not be surprised if we finish this game before my game with him (which started about three months ago).
