Naviary, once you leave, you will stop visiting here altogether?

I can't say if I'll be visiting or not.. IF I am able to, I'd probably pop on once a week to maybe see how the other title games are going, and to say hello. (I couldn't make any moves or anything.) But again I'm not entirely sure because I don't know how lenient they'll be.

"And when I come back, if you at that time are the current champion, I kind of would like this game to be the decider if I win back the crown or not."

I'm ok with this. If I wasn't, I'd resign! Obviously that means that nobody can talk about this game in an analytical sense (I'm looking at you Ry)!

So... for the sake of making it official...

offers draw

I've not really been following recent games so I'm not sure about this. I'd say it's up to Vic to make a decision on who, or how it will be decided.

Naviary

I do have a few more days before I leave. If we wanted to we could probably get 1 more move in. Only if you really want to though. So I'll do this now-

draw offer accepted.

Please record down your analysis notes of this game, tugwash, so that in 2 years when you have likely forgotten your plans for this game, you can read up and remember. I will do the same.

Everyone else can do the same! Please don't reveal your analysis notes now, but rather, record them so you don't forget, because we'd like to continue this game in a couple years.

captaintugwash

I thought about playing a move before having this discussion, but the move I was considering required a lot of analysis, to be honest I couldn't be bothered, it's nice weather and I'd rather be outside! It's bank holiday weekend here, so I'll probably be busy doing things.

I'm pretty sure you were aware of my earlier plans, seeing as you defended successfully.  But yes I'll keep my files safe.

Let us know before you leave so we can all wish you well.

Thanks for the game, I look forward to resuming it.

So if I understand correctly, this game's official status is a draw (1/2 - 1/2). Nav and Tug may come back in two years (!!!) and keep playing non-rated.

It's pretty interesting that on this forum it's clear that everyone has real lives. Naviary is going on a faith-based sabbatical to help/change/influence people's lives. Tug (if I remember correctly), has gone to at least one interview during this game, and is establishing his career.

If and when Naviary and Tug want to finish this game (non-rated) it is here. People with competitive, mathematical, strategic minds will be interested to see if this game is an eternal draw, or can either side achieve a win.😃

Gyrados is 2-0, and the best infinite chess player at the moment. The second canidate would likely be me, but I’ve lost way too many games in stupid ways.

I don't remember Gyrados playing that many games. Is this in infinite?

Possibly (and sadly) Naviary could lose his crown as World Champion while he is on his hiatus. But there is no simple way to decide who wins or inherits it.

Tug could have (presumably) claimed a win on time, but he put a priority on sportsmanship, rather than "winning-by the book". So anyone who is interested in challenging Naviary for the crown (who will be absent) will AT LEAST need to demonstrate that they're at least as strong or stronger than Tug. (draw against him, or draw or win against someone who has drawn or won against Tug). I'm not sure if there is anyone who fits this qualification.

In the event that no player can prove that he/she is stronger than Tug, then Tug can challenge Naviary again for the crown. With Naviary absent, it would be a formality. But we're far from this happening. Some of us are going to want to see, or need to see some games against Tug, before deciding if there is a ceremonial handing off of the crown from Nav to anyone else.

Btw: I'm currently travelling. I'm sure there's to be more discussion.

Gyrados beat me and one other person. I think he’s earned a shot at the title

But I don't think either you, or the other person has drawn or won against Tug.😐

captaintugwash

I haven't lost yet, not infinite. I've only lost to Martin, twice, in Bulldog.

Whatever Vic decides, I'm ok with. I certainly expect to have to play someone for the title, rather than simply inheriting it.

I think both me and nav could have claimed a win on time at some point! It's pretty clear that whoever I play next, we'll have to be stricter with time.

Tug, can we start?

Let's wait for a short while to see if I have a title game to play... if that's against you, then we'll focus on that. If I have another opponent, then sure we can play simultaneous.

captaintugwash

I'm confident I can beat Ry at infinite. I think we're well matched in Bulldog, but infinite... I had to explain to him by pm why I wasn't dumping my bishop earlier in this game, from that I infer that I can beat him.

Tomato ran me close, he probably deserves to be mentioned. How is he getting on these days?

"So if I understand correctly, this game's official status is a draw (1/2 - 1/2). Nav and Tug may come back in two years (!!!) and keep playing non-rated."

Non-rated, yes, but it's not out of the question that we could still use this game to decide the title. If upon nav's return, I'm the champion, then we'll continue this game as a decider.

But yeah for the sake of rating points, I think we just have to assign points based on the draw and consider the future outcome as unrated.

I had actually forgotten about this, thanks for reminding me.

Not yet, let me see if I get this job. If I do, I'll need to assess how much time I can devote to chess. It looks like I'll be playing two games of infinite soon, that might be enough.

I'll confirm one way or another within a week.

captaintugwash

I have an idea to decide the next champion. Because the title is vacated and not outright won, then perhaps we should have four of us play a mini league.

I would say me, ry, horrible tomato and the winner of gyrados vs vic. We all play each other once, colours randomised, with the group winner becoming champion.

In the event of a tie, results between the tied players can break the tie, and if that was a draw, then most wins as black. If it still tied, a final play off with black becoming champion in the event of another draw.

Just an idea for consideration.

Naviary

I can totally take out Tomato.

Didn’t tomato beat you once Nav?

THAT WAS ME who won. I've only played 1 game with Tomato, though it was unrated, we replaced the hawks with Dragons. He immediately went for an attack trying to checkmate me, but I successfully defended and bounced back to checkmate him.

Tomato ran me close. I was in control, but only just. When it was clear he was losing, he threw everything at me, it took a lot of work to stop him from forcing a draw. He's certainly dangerous.
