You just have to talk to the pawns and ask each one which it is. If the a-pawn says he's Garry, you know he usually belongs on the g-file.

I talk to mine politely, most of the time. But occasionally I say "Die, you stupid pawn!" And then it usually does.

I was talking to my pawns, and Dumbledore told me that he was feeling left out. Now I open with 1. d4 more often.
...that the pawns are scrambled too? So you might have Harry on the b-file.
