agreed. If you have such problems then mod yourself with a board after your moves.

What strikes me are people who never posted a board during their entire life, but who ask for a board at each and every single move they play.

This is not an individual problem, it's a problem related to the current regulation that must be changed to prevent abuse. It's a "legal" way to cheat and have more time to think and this should be fixed.

We can also keep the WFB as it is but just change the fact that the clock still ticks when waiting which is something like when you request the referee intervention to claim a draw or file a complaint you don't have the right to stop the clock.

Hi all

Merry Christmas for all of you.

I want if possible to change the rules for the WFB regulation. Some players abuse using it to think one or more days more than allowed time. That's why a change is needed.

...

Merry Christmas to all:

Here's my view:

When people play chess by correspondence the game is about each player finding the best possible moves. Time pressure and who posts the diagram should not be part of the strategy. (with 3 days to move, people can analyze for 5 minutes or 5 hours, but I don't think anyone is going to use all 3 days to study the position. The 3 days just lets them find a point in the day where they can sit down and play).

In my opinion every player has a right to see the board (up to 1-ply old) before making his/her move. We're not playing a type of "blindfold" chess where players have to make moves without seeing the pieces.

If there's anyone who feels frustrated when their opponent says "WFB" they should be patient and wait for the moderator to post the board. If they agreed to play and post diagrams, then they should post the diagram. (When I play I always post a diagram after every move so there is never an issue).

If there is a mod that isn't replying fast enough, then I suggest not asking for support from that mod anymore.

Who else, may I ask, has complained of this?

Have you guys got nothing better to do on Christmas day than talk about WFB?

The best solution to this problem is to mod your own games. If you rely on another peron to post boards for you, then you have to accept you're going to have to wait a little longer. I don't know why this is a regular discussion. If you post an accurate board when you move, then there is no WFB.

I hope everyone had a nice Christmas.

Welcome to a small nerdy community. Of course we don’t have social lives grin.png

This is my Mom's town right now...

No it's not supposed to be an island. This happened last Christmas too!

It's not as bad as it looks, the town itself is well protected, this is nearly all farmland flooded.

I guess the image is too big.

Image won’t load, but a lot of family in Ireland has been experiencing flooding .

Oh wow

that’s pretty bad, compared to what I’ve seen. Good that the town is well protected.

wfb = wait for boat?

I just saw the weather forecast, Ireland has some horrible weather to come so it's not getting any better! Wales does too, and the river here in Upton is draining most of Wales so I can't imagine these floods are going to let up any time soon. They are very well used to it here though.

In the past, this town has been cut off and required boats to bring in supplies. They've since done some work to protect the main road leaving the town, so it shouldn't happen again, but you never know.

I'm not aware of anyone else complaining about this.

Btw, looks like Tug's neighborhood has had tons of rain. Looks bad, but I presume everyone is OK. Here in Ohio we just got a lot of snow, and some fallen trees. Thankfully we still have power.

Look at my game against JamesAgadir and tell me if it's a normal behavior to ask for board at every move. Also waiting two days to think and asking for boards and then answering an hour before time forfeits, is it normal behavior?

My case is for the moment unique, but this is in fact the best opportunity to clean-up and improve the regulations preventing from such abuse.

Personally i don't have time, my regular job as a medical doctor is so time consuming and we have firewalls at the hospital preventing from accessing gaming websites so i cannot really post a board each time, even if my team is the one that developed board painter a very easy online complete tool to edit boards for chess variants with classic board shape.

My opponent is exploiting the flaw in the regulation to make the game very lengthy. This should no longer be the case in any game.

Personally i'm OK if we allow WFB at every move but the waiting time should be deduced from the overall thinking time.

I understand that the situation i'm discussing is very rare (see the games of the same opponent with other people, he doesn't act like that and it's a sort of harrassement using the regulations) and imho this should be changed.

I can finish moding if you'd like (usually providing a board update once per day). But please confirm before I start - I don't want to jump in and start moding unless both players say it's OK.

Since the game is in progress I'd like to see if finished. But honestly I probably won't mod any other games for someone who developed a board-painter app, and isn't using it themselves.😒

The problem with this river is it is one of the largest in the country, it drains most of Wales, Shropshire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire, so it's not just local rain that causes problems. Wales has had a lot of rain and that's where it's coming from at the moment. Every time we get lots of rain in these catchment areas, Upton floods like this. I think they're at the limit of what they can manage, if they protect the farmland too then then next town downstream (Tewksbury) will get flooded even worse, and they have a larger population.

It seems other areas have had it worse. Although to my knowledge everyone is safe, there were lots of people evacuated from their homes on Christmas Day. I can't imagine that would be much fun.
