Dice Chess Variant

They should have a game where you have to move the corresponding piece that a dice roll determines. Like rolling a 1 is a pawn, 2 = knight, 3 =bishop, 4 =rook, 5 = queen, 6 = king. If you cannot move the piece that you roll, then you can make whatever move you want on the board. The dice aren't used when you have only 1 legal move, or you need to get out of check.

I think there's something about this somewhere already, but if you're going to do that, you need bigger dice. maybe a twenty-sided one, and you can always move a pawn, maybe? I feel like it would change chess a bit too much.

this is why chess were proibited in the middle age. The moves were contingent upon the roll of the dice and they considered this like gambling.

I say it should be a twenty sided die, with results like this (makes it easier to move pieces, but a bit more complex to remember): 1: can move pawns and knights, 2:can move pawns and bishops, 3:can move pawns and rooks(includes castling) 4: can move pawns and queen(s) 5: can move pawns and king(includes castling),6: can move everything but knights 7: can move everything but bishops8:can move everything but rooks 9: can move everything but queen(s) 10: can move everything but king 11 - 20: can move everything.

If there's no legal moves for you because of the roll you made, reroll. Or you might just lose.

That makes sense.
