Draughts 960?
Don't they (the players) just have the Draughts/Checkers opening chosen for them at random?
I suppose if you had a bigger board you could have a few squares without pieces on them.

Let the players position their pieces alternately, on ANY unnocupied black square on the board (akin to 9-mens morris).
Chess 960 was invented for the purpose of eliminating opening preparation.
Obviously shuffling the starting position in draughts is not going to make any difference. I'm looking for suggestions to do about the same for draughts.
I considered putting a knight on a white square between the draughts pieces. The knight moves and captures like a knight in chess, can be captured by a draughts piece according to the draughts rules, and perhaps the knight should be subject to the rule that you must capture if you can.
