New chess variant. Looking for players to play with.

I would like to add. Before mentained. Yes I know the the first step jumps are based on position not the first move. So if you move a jack or a gambit forward one space. Then back to his start point the second move. He will get a 3 jump again(6 for gambit). I don't mind this. It is set by postion. So any jack that moves to where a jack starts off will get a 3 jump from that square. . Gambits get a jump if they move to where a gambit starts off. This is not a bother to me at all. To move back and forth is wasteful. Plus it lets the side jacks out faster.

To play P2P our custom.dat files must be the same. Also the flip. If you have white on top. I must have white on top. On that note I normally do black on top. So if you do differently let me know. The passcode I will be using is 123456z. It is "Have fun, have WinBoard!" by defult. Go to the engine tab, then "Engine #1 settings..." to change your password.

I am currently connected waiting for a player with the same passcode
123456z
I have black on top.
I'll stay connected for a few hours.
Then again after dinner.

I prefer black. Yes thank you I forgot. Everything in time control must be the same too. Here is what I set mine to. We might need to increase the # of moves from 100 to 200. Yet lets leave it for now, and see if 100 is enough.

nope I may have messed it up. hitting new game. I sent you a PM with my number if you want to call. To make it easier. Been over a year sence I connected with anyone. So I sort of forgot how. I remember it is easy...

Should work by both hitting new game. Then in the mode tab you hit "machine black". I do "machine white". Make sure black is on top. View tab - "flip view".

WTF this is pissing me off.......I was connected said some crap start a 1200-200 game. No clue wtf that ment. Something is not the same in our custom.dat or time control. Did you make sure your snake is WZ not WNZ in custom.dat If you don't have the one I posted at 2pm.
connected to passcode 123456c because the other one is closed by peer now...

I'm about to give up, unless you can call. I can't figure this out. I'm to the piont I want to smash my keyboard in frustration. I can't even tell when things are happening or how. So figuring it out through messaging. Is not going to work till I figure out how to connect. I hope Muller can add this to his site. Because I can't do this without actully talking to the person, to get timing and whats actully is being done. I'm connected playing black on passcode 123456d. This is my last try. 123456c was telling me to open a 1200-200 custum again. I have a strong feeling your custom.dat file is not the same as mine.EDIT I'm white I have moved. Lets try that. I'm leaving connected. To 123456d as white.

I give up, for now. Here is my custom.dat

I think the time control or the color is the problem, somehow.
I've tried 100/200, 100/2000, and 100/20, and every time it tells me my opponent wants the same time I'm using and the same color. Have you been able to get this working with anyone else?

does your board and pieces look like my pics. I might need to use defult tiles and piece color. Your custom.dat looks fine. I have no clue. I need Muller....
I have my time control set as
thanks for trying, just I can't figure this out. Sure it is something stupid and petty making it not work.
I just did the same. Uploading 2.1 wtf....I noticed the w and y were lowercase too. yet they worked, go figure. I made them uppercase anyways.
I fixed the above code too.
WinBoard in principle allows the white and black pieces to be defined separately. E.g. in Chess with Different Armies the same ID letter can mean completely different pieces for white and black. So a lower-case piece ID is interpreted as a black piece, and an upper-case ID as a white piece. There is a short-cut for defining both the same, which us using the capital suffixed with '&'. Then WB knows that it also applies to black. But that doesn't work with a lower-case ID.
Sorry that this is so poorly documented; normally users don't have to know this, because it is a feature through which 'engines' (i.e. AI plugins) affect WB. But basically you are assuming the role of an engine programmer here. (The engine is really p2p, but the custom.dat file is sent by p2p to WB when 'variant custom' is selected, so you are basically defining what an engine sends to WB.)
The standard distribution of WB works until 16x16. That is not a very hard limitation; by changing two numbers in the source code (it is open source!) and recompiling it you can enlarge that to anything you want. Of course you will run into limits as to what still will fit in your display.
BTW, I don't think difference in custom files can make p2p refuse to start a game. This will just show up later in the game, where one WinBoard will complain that the opponent made an illegal move. Difference in initial position or time control will prevent start of a game, though. If both sides attempt to start a game with different TC, the one starting first will get informed that the one who started last wants another TC, though a popup. He should then press 'New Game', open the Time-Control Options dialog to set the requested TC. (And beware that there are different TC types, classical and incremental. '1200' means 1200 sec incremental, with 0 increment, so 20 min + 0 sec/move.) After the one seeing the popup has set that TC, he can again press Machine White or Black to respond to the game request that was originally refused because of the difference. If there are still remaining differences (or he presses the wrong color), the other side now gets the popup with the request to alter his settings, etc.
I just downloaded the package from the link you game (which is ridiculously large, btw, becaase it contains zillions of photographs 7MB each...), and tried to start a 'remote' game against myself through the winboard.nl relay server. This worked fine. Of course I had the guarantee they were using the same TC, because I had not changed it between starting the first and second instance of WB. They were running on the same computer, so they used the same settings file.
Note that I already had WB on that computer in another folder, and that it actually used the settings file of that pre-existing WB. If that happens to other people it could be a reason why they are set to other TC.
Are you sure when you get the popup with the request to start a certain game, you are clicking the correct color in the Machine White/Black menu? Remember WB thinks the opponent is 'the Machine', as it has no idea that p2p is not a real engine, but just a connection to a human somewhere else. So if it asks you to start a game with white, you must press 'Machine Black'. If you would press 'Machine White' you have started an incompatible game, where you have black just as your remote opponent, and your 'Machine White' press will be interpreted as a counter-proposal, and relayed in a popup to the opponent.
