The big bughouse bugs/improvements thread

Nice to see a site other than the original ICS-style servers try out bughouse. I appreciate that as it was just released, nobody expects it to be perfect. As I don't see a similar thread, I thought I'd open one to list bugs, areas for improvement, etc.

  1. Rating adjustments should be based on the combined ratings of teams. Right now if a 2000 and a 1200 play two 1400s, the 2000 is playing for something like +1/-15 while the 1200 is playing for closer to +10/-6. This assumes one's partners moves do not affect one's own board, which is obviously incorrect.
  2. Need to be able to set rating thresholds for challenges. There are options there, but they don't have any affect on who you're paired with, it seems. (To, for example, only enter matches with people within 200 points of your rating).
  3. Communication options. By default, everybody can see everybody's messages. Or, I should say, everybody uses the same chat window but maybe 50% of people actually look at them. Making it open to all 4 players vs. just your partner is interesting in ways that differ from other servers, but there should also be an easier way to chat with your partner. For example, once starting a private chat and starting a new game, focus returns to the 4-player chat again, and partners miss messages when in the wrong window. Communication buttons are also invaluable, to make it easy to click "sit"/"go" and whatnot, and have specific sounds for each.
  4. Need some better way to find a partner than typing in someone's name or clicking past opponents.
  5. Pairing doesn't seem to look for even teams. This may in some part be due to a small number of people playing, though.
  6. For some reason since yesterday, I haven't been able to see the clocks on my partner's game. Not sure if that's just me or a sitewide bug.

Ending there for now. Yay bughouse! happy.png

combining with dis, seconded. also, pairing evenly matched teams is impossible considering the small pool of players. i mean, its cool playing with people i know but sometimes i just don't wanna play with certain people (aka the ones who don't communicate)
