In the meantime, @PixelByPixel is looking for an opponent. Does anyone want to play against him?
I’m sad...
@PixelByPixel: I'll play you. But I've played several times, so I have some practice. If you'd like to play I'll set up a thread tomorrow. Let me know.
@SuperSam1, I'll plan on starting our game a little after Christmas. Probably the 27th.
These games should be fun.
@PixelByPixel, I started our game (here). You can make your opening move anytime. Since this is the holidays anyone might be busy. Time limit is 3 days per move, but just leave a note in advance if more than that is needed. This should be a good game!
I miss friedmelon. When chess.com had a chess engine tournament I started a thread for betting on the winner. friedmelon kept changing his bet, and didn't even bet all of his biscuits. But somehow he lucked out, and won more biscuits than anyone.😝
Yes, the game will start on December 27. The winner will be the First World-Champion of an infinite-chess game that I'm aware of. I started making the opening graphic already:
After we have a champion, it will be interesting to see if new players (@hitthepin, @PixelByPixel, others?) can rise up and eventually steal the crown.😃
These games sometimes can last a long time. So players who aspire to win the crown may need to wait a long time before they can compete for it. And their own games can take a long time too, in addition to thinking of and creating their own expert-strategy to win.😈
Would you like me to create a Construct 2 (coding) program so we can play infinite chess live?
(It will probably take a solid 10 days, but it will be interesting.)
I would definitely play it, especially if you (or anyone) spent the time to code it. But I can't guarantee there will be a general public interest.
My guess by the time all the bugs are worked out, it could be more than a 10-day project. One thing that can add time is deciding how to pan or zoom if pieces move outside the normal displayed area (20 file x 22 ranks).
Check out this similar game where some of the pieces spread-out in the mid-game.
It's definitely an ambitious project, and I would certainly support it. In fact I think it would be rather cool. Not sure if I could help but if there is a way I would help. It is a cool idea!😊
1. Panning/zooming may not be necessary, since it can be replaced with solitary squares like you did when (1000, 4) was played.
2. I will start in 2/3 days.
The idea of programming this game for live play sounds awesome! Let me know if there is anything I can do to help with that effort. I'll definitely be able to help with debugging (test games and so forth). Also I have bigger graphics for all the pieces if they are needed for any purpose (posted games use a small version so the board fits within the text).
fyi: I've been busy during the holidays, so might be slow in games I'm playing for the next few days. But don't worry - I'll play within the 3 day limit for all games I'm in.
The first-ever championship game for an infinite-type chess game has begun. It is @SuperSam1 playing against @vickalan, in "Chess on an Infinite Plane". The prize game is (here). Since the tournament director himself is one of the competitors, White has been given to SuperSam1.
Good luck!
Where did @friedmelon go? If he doesn't show up soon then he is a no-show and I advance to the Championship game. I already messaged @SuperSam1 and he is ready to play!
