Tournament Summary - Chess on an Infinite Plane

Don't be sad, the Tugwash Defence is a defence against the Hitthepin attack.

I think the minimum required material for checkmate is a rook, pawn and either bishop or knight. Whether it can be forced is a different matter, but I can compose checkmates in the middle of the board with these pieces.
Of course, where there's a guard, there's a potential "edge", so a guard + rook is sufficient.
Two rooks is sufficient, and I'm fairly sure this is forceable.
One queen is insufficient though, and neither is one chancellor, and therefore one pawn is insufficient.
I would say a draw by insufficient material is highly unlikely and is probably quite obvious. If we find ourselves in a position where there is material but we don't know if it's forceable, idk I guess it's the mod's call. We;ll cross that bridge if we get there, which I doubt.

Yeah I think that list is solid for lone king games, obviously it gets very difficult to calculate when there's material for both. I guess in that event we just have to see if the weaker side can build an effective fortress. It should become clear eventually if the defender can hold his position.

Yes, I'll post updates when games are finished, but they can last a long time so updates aren't as frequent. I wouldn't be surprised if the winner of "SuperSam1 vs vickalan" holds the title for many months. That puts more pressure on the game.😨
But it's good to see there's more games going on to see who can challenge the future champion.😈

My plan is to model everything after the same rules as the bulldog series. Of course both could have minor updates and revisions to the rules. The goal is to always keep things fair and playable.
It's a little like the "Olympics" but for chess-variants. Every Olympics has nearly the same format, but there could be occasional changes in how to qualify, and other rule-details.
Btw: both games have the same rule to qualify to make a challenge against the champion: you need a "level-2" win, which means you need to win a game against someone who themselves have won a game.
Good luck in your games, and hope you qualify for a prize-game sometime. It would even be fun if we played against each other in a future prize game. (but I'm currently not a champion in either game).
