The hieroglyph 龟 is the simplified form of traditional one 龜!

To play or not to play Turtle?

William Shakespeare:

"To be, or not to be- that is the question:

Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer

The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune

Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,

And by opposing end them".

Where's an explanation of the rules?

We can discuss the rules by the tutorial party.

If I study the rules and beat you, do I get the GM TURTLE Title, which stands for Grandmaster - Truly U R Turtle Leisure Expert ???

IvanKosintsev

Dear AussieRookie! You will get the title of the boldest chess player at East and at West! All cinema heroes would be simply clowns in compare with you.

In fact there are two turtles : the 8x8 small Indian and the 9x9 large Chinese. But the indian variation requires two sets of pieces (Xiangqi or Tavreli). So the game will be less accessible and less popular. But in our informational world all is possible. And who of you knows well people, especially gamers? So you have the option to choose what to play.

Yes we need the rules!

Ok, to me it looks like a combination of Xiangqi and the so called "Russian chess" aka "Tavreli". Tavreli is a made up chess variant whose proponents claim was the "ancient Slavic chess" and that allegedly it is more ethical. It is pushed in Russia by bizarre slavophile nationalists who literally make up unsupported historical myths about what they present is superior Slavic inventions and pre Christian culture.

Reason I described what "Russian chess" Tavreli was is because this TURTLE chess version and what the OP writes is almost exactly same concept. The difference is that he uses Chinese chess board and attributes it to Scythians. That's Ukrainian ethnic nationalists (not to be confused with regular nationalists) claim to have descended from. The concept is the same. You combine pieces one on top of another and accumulate their movement power to create super pieces.

Thank you Mr. Drawgood for your clear and interesting commentary. Personally, I'm very far from any politics (the nature of aliens) and very close to the cybernetics because of my education and my life. I like and understand computers and games better than people. Therefore, I hope sincerely that you will forgive my social incompetence and apathy .The Chinese chess in compare with Indian (Russian) have seven types of checkers and I use consciously this simple fact for my innovation. Fewer pieces on 9x9 standard board gives only the promotion in popularity . You are surely understanding the essence of Turtle but unfortunately you haven't any desire to play and to discuss the possible variations of rules.

I want to play this TURTLE variant. But where can I try playing it? Is there software to download?
IvanKosintsev

O.K. You are writing your moves by the notation and I'm publishing the diagrams. You may also ask any questions and do any suggestions concerning rules.
