I've never played the game. 5 minutes on google gave me this. Although they might not all be right that's because I didn't spend much time. Should think of a better method.

Just ask a more personal question, for instance what's there style of play, main tactics early on... It'll be way easier to recognize people who know the game from those who don't from when you just ask facts that can be googled.

What you mean game fans wouldn't want to answer a simple question about there game style when they joining a club to talk about that game? Seems unlikely. Too much work? Read a few lines and see if it makes sense, admins in a games club should have a good idea of the rules of the game.

Example of how you'd do it for chess:

I play a tactical but still solid style. I like the alapin and the Italian (where I go for c3 followed by d3) with white. I play the French as black and a weird late QGD. I kind of wing it against the english. I play fast noticing most tactics and with reasonable positional play but don't really attack well. I prefer to grind out an endgame.

If anything that was on the longer end, but I think even reading the first two lines it's clear I know chess. The same should work with any other game especially strategy games.
