How to get good admins?

I was wondering if anyone had good advice about how to attract active, dependable admins to your club.

An excellent question that I don't have an excellent answer for.

The problem is that most of the time these people would be doing it for free...so it wouldn't work out as they would want to be compensated.

It is a pretty common thing for chess clubs to be always be one member away from closing, OTB or online.  Everyone wants to play chess, but few want to do the work to actually get the chess played.

The only answer is if you want to do it right, you've gotta do it yourself.

If you wanna do it your proper way, I recommend you should do it yourself. I did that till I found a better method.

In my now successful club, I promote everyone who joins to co-ordinator automatically. 5 out of every hundred arbitrary members who join will offer to make tournaments etc.

Promote them then. Promotion to admin or S/A requires a level of trust, but it also gives the member a sense of pride. This makes them want to help the club.

then demote the inactive ones

Best way is to run the club and over time you will see active members and that is probably the best way of getting Admins.

I guess you ask in the Off Topic forum, who had a job as a manager, mayor, a boss at work, crime-lord, or other things involving managing other people, and then suggest them to join as admins.

Even better, you look at forums in general, see who are good people - serious, responsible, mature, and ask them to be admins.

Find clubs with admins in them, and go to their profile. See what other clubs their in. And if they are admin in several clubs, then they are most likely very liable, you can also ask other admins form clubs their in, how well they do in management. For example. Link says that I demonstrate commitment to the club, and I’m very helpful. By getting a second opinion, you can find the right people too.
