You shouldn't really use that option and if you do, don't hide it behind a link that doesn't make it obvious what you are doing.

Yes, this has happened to me, and I immediately left the club, of course.
How do you know if you're using v1 or v2 links? The OPs links look the same; but they work as described.
I think the /join only works for OPEN clubs.
Hmmm.....and both links take you to the same page.
