Let's guess: How long will it take until the current "g3" bug will be fixed?

Since yesterday it's at least very difficult (more or less impossible) to create daily matches and tournaments as usual. Just one example: Matches from a "standard" starting position are shown with a pawn on "g3". This interrupts a lot of usual activities e.g. in leagues on this site.

Let's guess: How long will it take until this important bug will be fixed?

I try to be optimistic, so I raise the white flag. wink

I think Monday they will be back in the office and sort through 1000 bug reports. Eventually by the end of the day US time senior staff will realise there's a critical issue. On Tuesday, if they are competent, the appropriate engineer will be assigned and hopefully be able to fix it.

And all this this is optimistic.

How such a bug was allowed to be released is amazing to me. Doesn't Chess.com have any automated testing? Do any of these tests address critical features for team matches like this? Apparently not.

Tournamentix

Just to complete information. As we're all used to get around Chess.com's fun, @ImperfectAge has already tried creating a challenge by using the corresponding FEN.

The result: It doesn't work with the FEN of the "standard" starting position as well. You'll get the same pawn on "g3". So, you would have to search and find per hazard a particular FEN, which will be shown as "standard" starting position. Then you would have to play a test match to check, if all four castling options will be included. Theoretically you can still get around ... It isn't impossible to continue looking for "business as (near to) usual". 😉

I open, officially, the bets: 1 virtual hug and a handshake always virtual to those who guess the right time!grin

@CenturioneRomanoXXX: What about you? Do you have already guessed?

Commando-Poppins

I optimistically hit the clock. We will see.

CC software doesn't know the --initial-- position of --standard-- chess... We are down to the basics! Let's have a bet: The next feature will be out before this basic defect is fixed?

knetfan

I wonder if this is a "bug" or a "hack" since it is such a fundamental flaw.

Tournamentix

@uglyork: Yes, this sounds very likely. At the moment the're at least three Beta releases: Club redesign, Themes and Custom puzzles. Who could imagine, that things can turn worse, if you're testing several things at the same time?

Yesterday I've found my pages (in Beta) messed up with an undemanded change of backgrounds and got rectified for incorrectly assuming this might have been caused by the Beta release of Club redesign. After such a hard week it's understandable, that this weekend there are only reduced capacities to take notice about all these incoming bug reports.

And: On Monday only three weeks will remain for creating next month's bots.

@knetfan: Will it last longer, if it would be a "hack"?

I spent months bargaining with a "boss", I think, supporters. I sent many e-mails to chess com supporter, to invite them to give compensation, even if only symbolic, to those who, like you, like Jack, and many others, (I) have, WORKED, for days, months, years, many years ...To give chess.com more "value", and I also asked to add the same benefits of those who are subscribed, or to give the Gold subscription to those who "work", to increase, indeed, improve in the aspect, of "giving satisfaction and pleasure" to the many players.

Then above all, to be able to transfer grids etc ... being able to "work", fewer hours. At the beginning I spent 10 hours a day, but even more, looking for new attractions for the TCMAC. In the end they gave me alms,.. 11 days diamond subscription. Therefore, having said all this, I have little confidence. Interests, win over everything, certainly people. It is the logic of all companies that just want more profits without giving anything extra. Think of Amazon, for example.

Zombie SAs was a good one. All a club's former admins returning from purgatory.

knetfan

If it is a "hack", my guess is that it will take longer to fix. It depends on the skills of the hacker.

ImperfectAge

It's not a hack. Hacks would be far more destructive. This is an escaped defect, and untested functionality (that we all rely on, incidentally).

Are you talking about this (4 days ago)? Instead of the correct list ...

... there was a list in Beta with previous admins (including those with FPV closures):

For me the most interesting detail was, that it has been fixed within hours. thumbup
As nearly everything, it's simply about priorities.

Yes, that one. Interesting that it was fixed so quickly.

Tournamentix

@ImperfectAge: Yes, it was. Someone has mentioned it somewhere, I was curious about it, took these two screenshots, posted them in Chess.com Beta and only a few hours later it was back to normal (by which I in no way assume that this was caused by my post 😉).
