Also how good do you think 1300 is?, is it a respectable rating, or what do you guy's see as a respectable rating?

I just posted a long and detailed and polite answer to this but unfortunately the awful "community guidelines" decided to delete everything.

So I give the short answer, do not worry about this at all. Keep focusing on the process and don't worry about your rating. It will take care of itself as you improve.

Fair enough I lost to an 800 before the ishue with 2100s is underestimating your opponent the biggest issue with 1400s is hanging pieces (nothing else matters just hang less pieces and squares )

Indeed a commendable plan....If I were to give advice then working on calculations could be of great help...

I do puzzles everyday. So I think that helps.

BigChessplayer665

I never do puzzles I recommend receiving tactics from games instead maybe do chess.com puzzles like once a week

A lot of good players don't do that much tactics, I will probably consider doing them on the daily, but not too much, just enough so that I don't get rusty, I treat them as more of a warm up.

My issue is I play too much lol I prob would be 2500 if I calmed down some

is your account new because your account seems a bit to new to be asking for advice ?

My account is roughly 3 months old, so you could consider it new, though what's wrong with asking for advice even if I am new?, I just know there are lots of strong players here who could help me out you know.

Fair I was just wondering if you played here before I think I actually started around your range (1200-1400)

Instead of focusing solely on the number, prioritize your growth as a player and enjoy the journey of continuous learning and improvement.

Your plan to achieve 1400 is solid, and with dedication and consistent effort, you're well on your way to reaching your goal.

Good plan. Although I do have some tips that you may want to take into account. Around your level, puzzles start becoming a bit less important. You should definitely still do them, but perhaps consider playing more rapid games instead.

This next tip is much more important. I believe that analyzing your games is where you truly learn the most from. Look at the position below; lets say you play h3 here, and when you analyze the game after it says a4 is the top engine move. Instead of just being like "okay, a4 is best move" for a reason you don't understand, you need to actually see the idea behind the move. What you do here is make a move as black, any move, and see what the computer suggests to play after that. After, h6, for example, you will find that the computer says to play bh3, the idea of a4! You're developing your bishop and will end up winning a rook. This is how you analyze your games properly. Analyze your wins and losses, because there is always something to learn. Don't bother with analyzing blitz and bullet by the way.

Thanks for all this, I do hear that stronger players don't do puzzles for some reason, or at least some don't and are still good, I definitely don't have them as a #1 priority but I still like to do them so I don't get rusty with my tactics. I also analyze my games, I put big importance into that. Also thank you for telling me this way of how to analyze a game.

BigChessplayer665

I recommend you do what you think is best but you have to do something else that's different from the norm to improve ar higher elo winse everyone analyzes there games sometimes and does tactics that won't increase elo it will help you get better though

1,400 is the start of intermediate level chess.

You need strategy to beat those types of players.

You need to work on your Openings & Middle Game.

——————

To beat those types of players you need to have plans in the Middle game, but the plans you have in the middle game are often based on what your opening is.

Thus, you need to work on both.
