ooh. nice. thanks!
300,000 members!

ya but u have to consider ppl who only play live games, here only to learn not play, and a number of them who only post articles.

Just over a year ago when I joined, the membership was running at around 20,000.
WOW! I didn't think it was such an achievement! CONGRATS erik!

If you start charging EVERYONE, I think you'll see a serious decline in those numbers. I like the fact that ANYONE can play on here for free for as long as they want. It makes the site that much more accessable to everyone. There are PLENTY of extra incentives to encourage members to subscribe. The more someone uses the site, the more they will be willing to pay for it to get the extras (I couldn't resist all the platinum perks).

I wonder how many people joined chess.com for the free chess.com email...? ;)
I love this site-but the email is awful (Basic Membership). It would be easier to just have a yahoo or google email address.
How about a basic plus membership for $5.00 per year which gets rid of adds and allows 10 tactics trainer problems per day, and maybe auto vacation. You could of course juggle the pircs but that way people could still play for free, but you might get quite few who would add memberships at that level.

Hope that someone wants to open a forum on this, what suggestions can we make to Erick to bring in more revenues, possibly one of our players with accounting background in business or anyone else that has ideas on how to explore new avenues, just to see what ideas are proposed, it might be just a crazy idea but I do think that it is a valuable exercise.
maybe i can help - i have an MBA from Stanford?

erik, I suggest you stay out of it. What do you have to do with this site? Let the knowlegble ones make the decisions, ok?
joking, of course. Three cheers for erik!
Hi!!!!
I just noticed that the homepage says that chess.com has more than 300,000 members! Congrats erik!
