A chess variation for very busy people

Hi:

I have created a chess variation played on half of the board for really fast games of chess. Try https://halfchess.com . Please let me know your feedback and ideas for making it more fun.

Also try our two player games. Create a game and post the link here.

Look forward to your feedback and ideas for making the game better. And if you can download our app (which is only 3 mbs on Android and about < 10 mbs on iOS) - it would be a big validation for me.

Can I see the rules and board without having to login?

navalsaini

Yes. Just click on the dismiss button.

Thanks for your interest. Look forward to your feedback.

I was stalemated and the site said that I had lost.

navalsaini

Stalemate is same as checkmate in this variation. Otherwise there were far too many draws.

Did the game rules say that beforehand??? It's no fair if someone plays a game and doesn't know an important rule change like that.

navalsaini

Okay.

They say so in the rules section. However no popup (of the rule changes) when the first game is played. The onboarding needs work.

The other problems I am trying to solve is user retention. One of the advantages I see is that regular practice with halfchess improves fast chess games of the user (though still a hypothesis).

What are the other things I can improve @vickalan ?

Hi Navalsani, I didn't play any games (maybe I'll try later). I tried moving some pieces, but they just jumped back to their original positions. I also saw the clock ticking (but there's no time limit, right?). Also what are the 18 stages? Overall, it does look like a nice interface. Who made the engine to run the game?

navalsaini

Hey Vic.

Use clicks to move the pieces (not drag and drop - need to update this in the UI).

The clock is mostly for self timing. I did like to add mario game like music that gets more serious towards end of every 3 mins and then starts again. That is just a thought - :-)

I made the game engine by modifying p4wn . Would you like to connect with me on Linkedin if you are interested in the tech side of things?

Which city are you based out of?

Very interesting. I just have one suggestion: On most moves the engine seems to make it's move almost immediately (appears to be same graphic update). It might be a little better if there was a slight delay, like white moves, (pause) then black moves. Then it seems each side takes turns.
But otherwise it's very nice. I might play later to see if I can beat the engine.

Not suppose to mention web pages in the forums.  The moderators seem to be subjective on what they delete.

Oic - thanks.

I hope they let this be there - its very specific to chess. Though its has elements of self promotion. I will be careful going forward.
