A quick way to get the junk out of the forums...

Haha I'm totally joking KNH. It is an interesting idea, like Digg.com, but I'd rather not see things intensely "policed", y'know? I'd rather put up with some junk (and there is A LOT of it, isn't there???) on the forums than have a weirdly hostile atmosphere where people are getting buried all the time. If you think about it, forum gangs would form... people would only need nine friends and they could destroy anything that their "enemies" posted, do you follow?
I love the Calvin avatar by the way!

Course I knew you were joking, Rael! I thought about your good point too -- people could also use that "10 vote" to get rid of totally legitimate stuff...perhaps we should stick to the current theory of "ya don't like it, don't read it".
Glad you like the avatar -- I am similar to him, but I have less hair, weigh more, and the imaginary animals I talk to are often pink elephants.

The best I've seen is the karma system on slash dot. I like it the best because it actually works. In all honesty though I've seen very little abuse on this site.

Yup -- after thinking about it, I completely agree: let it be. There was another chess site I was just at where someone posted an innocent question about other websites, what they think of them, and what name do they play under and it got PULLED. Unbelieveable...
On another site I have seen, they have it where forum postings can get voted off. For each posting, there is a button titled "Report this!" and if 10 people click that button, the posting is automatically deleted. Might be kind of nice to have for these folks that post "APPLE IPOD LOWEST PRICE EVER" junk posts, or other stuff (e.g. "Come watch me cheat", "So-and-so is a jerk!", "Human sacrifice today live online!" well, maybe not that last one...). Not only could this help clean up the forums, but might save you Admins a lot of time: instead of us reporting it to you and you having to track it down, all we need is 10 (or whatever number chosen) good souls to clean it up with the simple click of a button.
