@OP: Those might be popping up from meebo chat, the third-party program at the bottom of your screen. I disabled meebo, so I don't get any ads of that nature.
Since meebo is separate from Chess.com, the website is honoring its promise on no ads--unless ads are popping up from Chess.com, in which case a mistake or glitch is occurring. If you are sure the ads are from Chess.com and not meebo, contact the staff, and they will be able to help you.

I am a free member, and even I never get pop-up ads, just banners on the sides. It must be meebo.
@OP: Sorry, I can't tell from which source the ads come, because I can't see what's happening on your end. Also, I disabled meebo so long ago, I don't remember how to do it! 
I will see what I can figure out. In the meantime, someone else may explain how it's done.
@OP: Okay, that was easy. Hover the mouse button over HOME near the upper-right corner. In the menu, click Account. Then, click Privacy. On the lower half of the page, you should see a pull-down menu called "Chat Bar." Choose "Never show" to disable it. That should work.
