Annoying players at chess.com

I have recently had a lot of players who disconnected after I captured a minor piece or just had a winning position. I'm wondering if it's starting to be a trend of some sort? I hope that all the unpleasant users sees this post and thinks twice next time they disconnect or let their time just run flat out.

Because what you actually are doing is wasting other peoples time, and a polite user would have enough respect for himself not to do that. But by all means, if you want your account restricted in the end, that is entirely up to you! I'm just stating a fact!... and another one; that all of us "ordinary" users actually want to play chess, not waste our time (money?) on douchebags who doesn't even bother to resign.

Please, hear me, and I hope you actually start being a sport, all of you. And if you are, I praise you! You are wonderful :D

Resigning in a lost position is very polite and gracious. However, not resigning in a lost position is neutral. It's neither good nor bad. it's perfectly acceptable to play it out to the bitter end. Think of it this way - it means your opponent wants to learn from you the most efficient way of finishing off a game in a won position. They showing an interest in what you will play and trying to learn from you. Be flattered.

As for using up their time, it's their time! It's not like they can use up the time on your clock. Don't begrudge people the use of their own time in whatever way they see fit. By agreeing to play a 30 minute game against someone you have accepted that their play may use up up to 30 minutes. If they want to use 5 minutes on their first 45 moves, and then 25 minutes on their 46th move, that's their choice and not something you should criticise.

GKarRacer

chyss, that's not he's referring to. I doubt he'd care that much (or at least shouldn't), if his opponent played out a lost position. It's when the opponent simply disconnects and leaves you hanging. Over the board it's like your opponent, without saying a word, simply got up, left the room, and never came back.

If your intention is to resign, then you should do so. If you want to play out the game instead, fine. But, don't just leave and not come back.

Gosh darnit, all these people wasting my time. I might have to us stronger language.

It's deja vu all over again....and again....and again.....

I agree with chyss

How do you know he disconnected by choice and not by Mother Nature?

I actually meant those times you just KNOW that they just act like cowards... I am fond of using my time as well, but to actually log out exactly when you get a lost position? Questionable. But I'm not saying everybody does it on purpose, of course. I can use a lot of time in one move, actually more than average. But what if I never did that last move? And as my opponent, you'd just stare at the screen for ages until my time ran out. I had a lost position, no question about it.

But are you guys saying it is alright to steal time like that? I want to spend my time playing when I actually play, not sit and stare at the same position for ages -_-

But maybe the etiquette is different other places (globally) :)

thegreat_patzer

this topic isn't "trending", no.  disconnectors have been happening for years and years.  there have been a lot of threads about it; so you'll understand the fatigue.

regarding "global ettiquette" no- I doubt those that too that are being "polite"; no doubt they're trying to NOT be polite.

but kaynight has a point. a game is a game.  you should not sign up for a time control you can't bear to tolerate.

also- chess.com's policy is to stick disconnectors together- so as you play 'politely' it will happen less.  I don't know what more to say. I love your avatar.  I'd impolitely wonder why you created a new thread when one existed and is still active... "Disconnectors".

but- that goes against the spirit of being polite doesn't it?

Kaynight: I might've upset someone, that's for sure^^ and that's why I love the internet. Everybody got to say their mind, but it is people like you who oppress others, thinking in black and white. Try seeing the whole picture, then you'll get the idea :) I don't want to argue, I wanted to tell others here about a problem a lot of users actually's having. But if you want to take on the dictator-role and say "this is how it is", that's fine by me. You think that way, and that's just a part of you. But I wanted to point it out, not actually argue about it.

But sure, I will accept that some users are idiots, and that some actually do not care about making this the better online chess site. Not referring to you, of course. Talking about those players who thinks my car needs a wash.

Erik_29

Let them abort. Gives me time to enjoy a smoke in between games.

What's the point of pointing it out when there is absolutely positively nothing that can be done about it?

Seems better to get a clean car out of it than pounding your head against a wall.

Allright :-) I will just sit tight next time and think about not to think, and how patient I should be. Why not? It's the internet! Glad we sorted that out, Kleelof. Of course you guys are right. But there's actually nothing that can be done about it? LAME -_-

The internet is great for providing an endless supply of losers. And, once they are identified, they just change their name. But, not to protect the innocent.

kleelof

To be honest, this has rearely ever happened to me. But, when it has, I just go to ChessTempo and solve a few chess tactics.

Pulpofeira

Let's say "try to solve". :D

Are you trying to say Mother Nature only disconnects people in favorable positions and never in Lost one's?

I didn't know Mother Nature created storms on human chess players time frame. You have nothing more than an assumption that they are disconnecting on purpose you have no evidence to support such a claim.
