Hi all,

I have been trying for a couple of months now to reach 1300+ rating in blitz but can't seem to get there. Whilst my other ratings are improving a lot my blitz rating is stuck where it was a few months ago... If you guys have any good tips that could work please comment below, thanks

Play more tourneys. My rating is always at its highest at that point.

hmm I suggest that you break them with a hammer

Your computer screen or chess.com?

no using your head

GGuessMyName

using your head? Pretty ironic coming from the person with a 2000 blitz rating while also somehow being rated 1300 in daily.

Why do we need to analyze for 1200-1300? Just reduce blunders and 1200-1300 is easily manageable. I have 1500 in blitz and still blunder a lot but not every game.

4go10_legend

huh, did you know that l play blindfolded while playing daily games?

I just broke the 1200 - 1299 Blitz barrier happy.png

Dear iloveguppy,
I am a certified, full-time chess coach and International Master, so I have seen it and tried it all.
There are so many ways to get better and I know it can be overwhelming.
You can learn from free videos on youtube, there are books at your disposal that can all help, but they are not tailored to your needs.

One of the most important things you can do is to analyze your games! You must learn from your mistakes! That is a priority. You can't really move on to a new, different topic and learn new ideas if you still make the same mistakes over and over again!

This is where a chess coach comes into the picture. A good coach can show you how to study, what to study, gives you the material YOU need. Naturally, it takes time to use everything in practice, but if you are relentless and persistent you will succeed! happy.png
You should learn the main principles in every area of the game (opening, middlegame, endgame).  Don't focus on only one part! You should improve your tactical vision as well as it is part of all areas!
This how I built my training program for my students. We discuss more than one topic during a lesson so it's always interesting and they can improve constantly. I give homework too and the right tools to make practicing enjoyable and effective! happy.png
Don't worry about your rating and the ups and downs! Just keep on playing and practicing!

I hope this helps.happy.png  I wish you good games and 100+ extra ratingshappy.png

I would be more than happy to!

First off, I would personally recommend getting a coach (especially a good coach). For the past 2 months I have been learning from a GM (who is in the top 100 in the world for the FIDE standard rating). Although it could be costly for some players, it could help you strongly accelerate your rating improvement, plus it would be a way more productive use of your time studying and playing chess, as it is limited and thus we have to find the best ways to efficiently improve the most in chess.

Another aspect that I think contributed to my current increase in chess improvement is the use of my time studying chess. Nowadays, I barely comment on forums and clubs and use almost most of my time studying and playing chess. I strongly suggest doing a mix of positional and tactical chess problems rather than just tactical chess problems, as without a good position advantage that your pieces are in you would find it hard to convert the positional advantage into a tactical motif. Also I recomond reading the book 'Silman's Complete Endgame Course' for your endgame study as a perfection in different types on endgames would be crucial in Blitz and Rapid games, especially if the time on the clock is low.

Finally one more aspect I think is a change in my emotion and attitude after each game and my perception of players ratings. Before I always thought 1500+  rating players where really good and were hard to beat. Nowdays I find even 1900-2000 rating players quite easy to beat on a consitante basis given my focus in the game. I know I don't play a perfect game and always have a couple of mistakes and innacuracies in my games (maybe even a blunder especially when my clock is low on time). But by avoiding to hang pieces, keeping my pieces in good postions and not allowing my oppenent to attack my pieces, I gain a good control on the game and if my oppenent blunders (which actually happens quite often in 1500-1700 Blitz rating range) I get to sieze my chance to attack my oppoent and convert the advatnage to a win and I am quite succesful in this which is actually one of the major reasons for my current increase in Blitz. Also after every game whenether is it a win, draw or lose I keep my emotional cool now which means in the long run this is also a reason for my current increase in my Blitz rating progress.

I hope all these tips helps you acclerate your Blitz rating increase and other time control increaeses @technod happy.png
