There's no reason for him to close the account. He can still have a perfect daily column retirement without that. Even if he did, Chess.com would retain the articles, as they are now something like Chess.com property, like in magazines. Don't be silly.

all of u silman fans if u contribute just one dollar per month out of ur pockets it would amount to big raise in pay for jeremy and he won't quit, so walk ur talk...

I think the disappearance of everything related to a member (regardless of whom that member is) happens automatically. The articles, if they were posted directly by Jeremy, would probably disappear along with him IF that's what he was thinking to do (which I doubt). This sounds more like whether or not he wants to CONTINUE writing his column. Hopefully, for all those who benefit by them and enjoy them, he'll continue.

In addition to that retiring from columnist doesn't mean he will close his account too, Chess.com staff is intelligent enough to code their software so that IF that happens, his content won't be deleted.

All I would like to say here is thanks for the time you have put in Mr Silman and good luck to you in the future.

Cheers! :)

I love Jeremy's columns - they are stylish, witty, provocative and to the point.

IM Silman, if these rumors are true, you have just sent me into a deep depression. The *only* reason that I look forward to Monday mornings is so that I get to read another one of your brilliant articles.  Your articles are so much more than just chess talk, as they are filled with personal insights, emotions, humility, extremely witty humor, and no nonsense answers to tough questions.  You are a one-of-a-kind author that simply can never be replaced.  Just remember that for every negative comment you read, there are probably 100 or more positive comments that simply go unstated.  PLEASE RECONSIDER!!

=( always been a silman fan

Why all good things come to an end? Just because...

Please stay!  We even created a Silman Enthusiasts group for you!!  The weekly column makes Mondays bearable because I know I can have the pleasure of getting home and reading it!!

I personally wrote him too, and thanked him for his immense contributions here.  In spite of the discussion on the other forums, which got very heated (much more than I think they deserved), I have wrote Silman personal emails before, about chess ideas I had, before I was on chess.com.  He always wrote back (albeit, I only sent 2 emails with questions) with very thoughtful discussions of my ideas - the pros and cons.  He never put me down for my questions, and never tried to steer me away from my ideas, but helped encourage me to see the diamond in the rough.

For every chess player who felt necessary to trash Silman, whether you agree with him or not, please rethink your hurtful words.  I don't think the OP of the original "criticism" blog was disrespectful in his opinion - but it was his opinion.

I think Silman is a very witty man, full of love for chess and a desire to share that love with others.  He is a great attribute to this site.  If you don't like him, that is fine...but there are countless others who do appreciate him.  Remember, he is a mere mortal, like all of us.  You may not agree with everything he says or does, but he does teach chess very well!  Thank you for that, Silman.

I've learned a lot from his columns, and as a result bought two of his books (so far).

If he's going, I want to say "thanks", or maybe "au revoir".

Thanks for the memories Silman.  Your endgame book is the best ever written on the subject.  I apologize for all of the trolls that drove you away.

I disagree with a lot of Silman's teaching philosophy (toward novices) and make it known in many posts, but nonetheless I own several of his books, worked through several of his chess mentor modules, and have thoroughly enjoyed reading his books/column/website/reviews/mentor lessons even when I couldn't understand much of the more advanced material.  His column is enjoyable.   I enjoy his endgame book and love the changes he made to How to Reassess Your Chess.  His Complete Book of Chess Strategy is among the 2 best strategy books in my opinion for <1400-rated players.  Too bad to see him go.  Hire de la Maza to take his place?

Silman is a great writer and has done wonders for my chess game over the years. I recommend his books to many of my students and will continue to do so.

This is an unfortnate loss, I love your books the 3rd edition of Reasses Your Chess helped me go from 1600 to 1800, and I look forward to reading your articles.  You will be missed.

You should re-post this on the other thread about Silman leaving!

Having said that, I do think he has a point regarding the censorship issue.

IM Silman is one of my favorite writers. Definitely an original! I like his passion, intelligence and humor which he integrates beautifully in his writing. I have just about all of his books. He knows how to teach. I once wrote a short email on boxing where I disagreed with him on something and to my surprise he wrote me back a long well articulated response fervently defending his view. Not many people would take the time to do that. He's cool. By the way, his website jeremysilman.com is awesome and if he reconsidered staying at chess.com that would be even more awesome!

Lucidish_Lux

"The Amateur's Mind" is singlehandedly responsible for 80% of my positional knowledge. I haven't even gotten to Reassess Your Chess yet, and I anticipate learning even more from that. His endgame course has done wonders for my endgame play. Having seen firsthand the results of his teachings, his column is one I pay attention to, and put great stock in.

He always has a point to make, and makes it clearly, without ever allowing the reader to become bored. He has a rare gift, and I hope he remains on to continue sharing it with us.

Before starting to play in OTB tournament I have read Amateur Mind, Reasses Your Chess by Silman. It gave me a foundation for positional understanding. In few days I am planning to purchase his 4th edition of RYS. IMHO He's one of the best chess authors for amateurs in the world.  Mr. Silman, please stay on chess.com
