Ask a Question to Magnus or Vishy

Even when we offer a question for you to ask, we don't expect consensus. Look, I wish we had more access to the players and could get one-on-one interviews for longer periods. We just don't :-( But we are the only chess site offering this, so we're trying!

That's great. Whatever the question you ask. Thanks.

Do you believe in sentiments ?

What would be your profession if you did not choose chess ? Ask this question to both

CIVABALASANKAR

What would be your good piece of advice for young chess players ?

@MikeKlein:

Good on you for being able to get even one question, that's great.

But what you say is not the point. No one expected consensus. But you said you would choose the BEST question. And your experience should enable you to judge that better than most of the posters here. But you have taken the path of least resistence. You know it's a dumb question, and as fabelhaft points out, it will be regarded as such by the players. Everyone who knows any history understands what happened in Karpov-Kasparov 1984/5. You are wasting your opportunity and diminishing your credibility to get such opportunities in the future. Apologies if I seem overly critical, but I think most thinking people will think the same.

heinzie

So did she ask it or not?

mathewritesh

I thought chess.com's user got to ask one question in the press conference. I saw the conference and didn't see any question from Chess.com.  Did I miss it?  Did they get to ask a user question?

Just wondering, what was the question asked on behalf of Chess.com in today's press conference. Not sure if I missed it :(.

Where were you before they select the question?! Cry

Ou, I'm blind! You posted an excellent message there (again). And I also liked the MayaCM's question, I was so curious about knowing how the best chess players of the world deal with the feeling of viewing chess as a work (it's hard for me to believe that someone can still enjoy chess when he is at the point in which for playing "a bit better" he has to memorize tons and tons of moves and variations from a database).

@danielmbcn: Thanks.

Yes, computers are killing the joy of chess, making it memory work instead of skill at the board. And increasingly, half of the games you play (ie when you are black) seem to need to have the sole aim of managing to achieve a draw. What is the fun in that?

I think in the next 20 years, chess is going to need to evolve into a far superior form, and one which cuts out the need for extensive pre-game analysis.

So, it's over and this question wasn't answered, was it?

rickpa

Yes, I'd also like to know whether this question from chess.com was asked. I didn't hear it in any press conference. If it was, what was the answer?

SVS1234

No question asked as far as I remember.

EvgeniyZh

What do you think about Chess960? Do you think it should be played more, be more popular? Will you play in Chess960 tournament if there is?

mcris

The press conference is over, so the questions should be over.
